The city turns pink for one glorious week. Posted by Picasa

The City is Blooming

Spring feels like it’s just around the corner. And I can’t wait to see the cherry blossoms bloom around the Tidal Basin this week… Helena and I have guests coming in from NYC for the next two weekends and can’t wait to share my enthusiasm for my new city with my friends.

I’ve been doing a little bit of this, and a little bit of that…
For St. Patty’s, headed out to Adams Morgan to be entertained by the match.com fiasco of a girlfriend of mine… long story but know this- DC is a very very VERY small city. Be careful of who you date.
Speaking of DC, caught the movie “Thank You for Smoking”… enjoyed it. But wondering how it will do in the rest of the country when it rolls out into more theaters. And this past weekend, had so much fun at the Kite Festival near the Washington Monument. Seemed the whole city was out and about, enjoying the weather and signs of spring. Next year, I’m bringing my own kite to fly…

Stayed at 60 Thompson in Soho while in NYC…. Great hotel and even better location. Although I mainly window-shopped and people-watched, I was able to find a few gems in Soho that I will be frequenting while in NYC. Splurged on dinner at this great restaurant in the West Village- finger lickin’ good!

And today after church, headed to the Dada exhibit at the National Gallery of Art. As I was walking through the galleries, couldn’t help but remember back to the morning’s message about the contagious Church. Just like the Dada movement and how it originated from Zurich and spread to Berlin, Hanover, Paris, and New York, so too the message of Christ is most effectively passed and reflected by the individual lives of its followers.

One of the more famous examples of Dada art. Posted by Picasa

My Newest Indulgence

I feel so relaxed… Its amazing what a sprinkle of Epson salt and some drops of aromatic foaming bubble bath can do for your body and soul. It came recommended to me after my first visit to see a masseuse and I am so glad that I heeded her advice! Literally after stepping out of the bath and drying off, I could feel the stress, tension, tightness and my knots just melt away. I just collapsed onto my bed and felt myself turn into jello (in a good way).

So, I’ve been feeling incredibly homesick lately. Don’t really know what the triggers were but home just seems so far away. Hopefully this is just a phase. But I miss the beach, the palm trees, the weather, the food, my friends, my old haunts… but mostly my family. I miss their raucous laughter, lively banter, affectionate kisses, and suffocating bear-hugs. Evening walks with my parents. Facials and shopping with my sisters. Morning kisses for my brother. Meandering conversations with my halmoni.
