Heading Home for the Holidays

Nine days left before I head home for the holidays….I take way too much joy in literally crossing off the days on my desk calendar at work. Lately I’ve been alternating between my red and black pens in an attempt to be creative but haven’t really worked. At times I catch myself staring at my desk calendar hoping that an autostereogram image will pop out at me.

Anyways…. My point is that I CAN’T WAIT TO GO HOME AND SEE MY FAMILY!!
So that I can appreciate the daily indulgences of sharing meals with my family, taking long evening walks with my parents, goofing around with my siblings – being under the same roof.

But of course the inevitable rears its ugly head and this visit is no exception. That’s right people. The ubiquitous M word. Marriage.

Now I’m pretty good with deflecting their nagging and worries. I would hope so since I’ve been practicing since I graduated from college. But this time around, my mom is up to her old tricks again - she’s got a blind date arranged for me. Now for those of you that haven’t heard my original-blind-date-set-up-that-could-have-been-a-scene-from-a-korean-drama, you’ll have to ask me about that whopper.

Needless to say, I will be on “high alert” and using every opportunity to avoid such a situation (thank God my schedule is fairly full already). But if my mom gets her way this time, she’ll still be disappointed. Cause unfortunately, her daughter is independent, has strong opinions, and is politically aware and ambitious – traits that have scared off my previous set-up partners (where does my mom find such losers).

But hey, I still can’t wait to spend time with them. Drama and all.
