On my way to watch "Jomblo", an Indonesian film playing at the Freer Gallery, I came across a most disturbing sight. We were making our way across the Mall (for all you non-DC folks, its the area that spans the Capitol, various museums including the Smithsonian and the Washington Monument). And lo and behold, the miltary was holding an exhibition, complete with copters, tanks, and deep sea diving demonstrations. We came across a fenced in area where we watched in horror a K-9 unit viciously attack a man in a "fat suit". And the crowd actually clapped at the end of that demo. What the heck are they clapping for?? Bizarre. They must have missed the Abu Ghraib photos.
And my last rant.... I am appalled that ABC made and will be airing their movie on the bird flu, "Fatal Contact: something whatever." That is what I call reckless and irresponsible TV programming. And the public is going to eat it up.
